Eagles @ Cowboys Preview

Win and a home playoff game with a bye. Lose and a road game with no rest. Pretty big swing in outcomes from this game. I disagree with Ed that this is a win the SB vs. 1 and done if they lose type game. With the parity in the NFC playoff field, there's no reason to put too much weight on this one game. No matter what happens, the Eagles still have to win AT LEAST 2 more games just to get to the SB. Let's not make this game out to be more than it is: a potential short cut.

Key to the game: Win the turnover battle. It's really that simple. I think the Eagles talent matches up well with DAL. So if they're evenly matched, then the edge they need is extra possessions.

Best way to get the turnovers is to win the battle of the lines. Defense needs to get pressure on Romo and our line needs to give 5 time. This is what worries me most since our line is in flux with Jackson going down.

Potential negative surprise: Miles Austin. This guy is a game changer. He's Texas DeSean. He beat Philly the last time and he's the guy who is likely to beat them this time. Not their running game, not Witten, nor their D.

Potential positive surprise: Brian Westbrook. We haven't seen the real 36 yet this year. If he decides to show up, then this would give Philly a second big play threat. That would be deadly.

Not Witten? i beg to differ with that statement. He always kills the Birds. They have no one who can cover him.

This team is very well matched-about even at every position. Dallas has a better D, Philly has a more consistent O. Key to the game is the QB battle. if Don plays a good 4 quarters and they can make Romo be Romo, then they'r ein good shape. if Romo gets comfortable, it could be a long day.

Huge game. I will agree with Ed in the spirit of "it becomes significantly harder to win the SB having to play 3 road games ina row. It can be done (see NY Giants), but it is a rare feat indeed.

And don't forget AZ won 2 road games and a home game to get to the SB.

It's easier, but not impossible. Especially if the teams are all equally matched.

I know no one cares about the NBA, and no one cares less and watches less of it than this guy, but reading this tory on ESPN absolutely sickens me. David Stern is a turd, he runs a pathetic league full of thugs and piss poor play, and he is too smug to admit that things need to change. That no action has been taken on this 3 days later is a joke. Goodell would be all over this.

They should just scrap the NBA. I'm not sure anyone would really miss it.

It must be a big game, because 5 is looking like ass so far.

I'm saying that based on them looking scared and getting completely bitch slapped on both lines of scrimmage like some JV football squad. Dallas looks like the far superior team thus far. This has the makings of a 31-0 rout if they don't start blitzing the house because their D line is getting blown out badly.

17-0 with 1 minute left in 1H. This is about as bad as I thought it culd go. Really thought Philly would make more of a game of it.

Let's see what 2H brings before getting too upset.

Retarded play by Peters getting the 15 yard penalty. Tons of wasted time to get a play off only to call a timeout.

Another bad thing out of this turd-they go back to Dallas next week. Dallas is just better than they are and a division rival. You did NOT want that as your first round matchup.

And here come the "but but buts", but has anyone noticed the 3 massive mistakes made by Don today? Overthrows a wide open Desean by 20 yards, killing a certain TD. Terrible throw to Maclin on 3rd down when he would've gained 25. Drops a snap that hits him in the hands to end a good drive. These are observations, but big game and he again comes up miniscule. I know someone will argue it's not his fault, but they are down 17-0 and he hasn't manned up and carried them at all.

You didn't count Maclin as a drop did you? That was no drop, it was 3 yards behind him.

watch the replay after the game. if you can't find it, i'll figure out a way to put it on youtube.

the ball was on maclins ear, not three yard behind him. on his back ear, but as aikman said, it's a ball that maclin has to catch.

why do you look for things to kill mcnabb about? doesn't make sense to me at all. you take every litle thing that happens and amplify it into gigantic things.

could mcnabb have made a better play on the low snap? yes, definitely. is that a ball that we've seen countless other qbs drop in the same situation? yes, definitely.

could mcnabb have made a better throw to jackson? yes. is that a throw that nfl qb's complete 100% of the time? no. is the deep ball the best part of mcnabb's game? yes.

was the ball to maclin a little behind him? yes. should he have caught it as it went clean through his two hands? yes.

If a WR has to stop his route and reach back to try and make a catch, it is a bad throw. That is what happened there-they replayed about 3 times. He can catch that ball, but it would be betetr to hit him in stride.

Why do you blindly defend this guy when he comes up small every time they have a huge game like this? He is having a terrible game. You Mclovers jump through yourself to defend him when he;'s leaving a steaming pile of game on the field. i just don't get that blindness?

It's always about what other QB don't do or might not have done. I don't care about that. i care about what the QB on the team I root for does and he tends to take the apple more than most when the lights shine bright. You will be on one side or the other on the issue and we are on opposite sides and that is OK.

i don't dispute that. what you i don't think you factor in is that nfl qb's throw balls like that on probably 30% of their completions.

just because don throws a ball behind a guy (like the terrible throw he made to maclin when they were just backed up in their own zone), doesn't mean anything in and of itself. nfl qb's (all of them) make throws like that all the time.

i'm not defending him at all. i'm saying you have unrealistic expectations if you think there is a QB in the league who doesn't make throws like that all the time.

the point about him "coming up small" is debateable, but i don't see any evidence that you count any game as a "big game" unless the eagles lose.

only, this is a team game. QBs can lose a game singlehandedly, but i can't recall a single "big game" where mcnabb played as badly as roethlisberger played in his first superbowl victory.

honestly, i'm only lukewarm on mcnabb but i end up defending him if something i hear doesn't ring true to me. you're anti-mcnabb, i get it, but to point to him as the biggest culprit in this game when defense is getting ass raped repeatedly makes no sense to me.

mcnabb isn't having his best game, but the defense is sucking!

btw - your 31-0 prediction is looking pretty good.

here's the biggest difference (i think) between how you think about it and how i think about it. you hate the fact that mcnabb isn't good enough to win it by himself.

i accept the fact that he's not good enough to win it by himself. honestly, how many QBs are? have there been more than a few all-time?

mcnabb is good enough to win a superbowl if the rest of the team plays well. so we don't have a QB who can "carry" a team to a superbowl? i accept that, i've made my peace with it.

mcnabb has played well enough in "big games" that if the team around him had played better he might have some bigger wins.

I am actually calmed down now. Dallas is just the better team. At every single position, they are just a bit better. Imperceptible in some cases, but a little faster, a little tougher, a little hungrier. Bad bad first round playoff matchup for this team. Not who you wanted to see.

Gocong doesn't play a snap anymore. I remember a guy who, a few years back, was outraged that they drafted a DE who never played LB to play LB. The experiment failed...badly. Here's an idea-just draft an LB instead!

lol, i'm disappointed as heck too. his college coach had tedy bruschi as well and kept comparing the two favorably. said gocong had a better motor than tedy and that he'd make a heck of a LB.

definitely didn't play out that way at all, you called it. gocong has no football instincts!

maybe bumble's right and the cowboys are better at every position than the birds? i don't think that's true (you could have drawn the exact opposite conclusion after the last regular season game of last season), but it's possible.
